Okay so this following post is for the people who don’t know what has been going on the past few years or maybe need to be educated/caught up.
You see these two pictures? They’re the same people. Now, I know that if you’re reading this, you probably know who he is- and that’s a start. Patrick Stump for the majority of his career has been known as the “fat lead singer of Fall Out Boy”. Well, that’s changed. He decided to change himself for his health and so he could feel more comfortable about himself. Thus, he cut down his bad eating habits and began to exercise and what you see in the bottom photo is what he looks like currently. Now, I know most of you are in “shock” over this change, saying things like “WHAT HAPPENED TO FATTY PATTY?!?!? WHY IS PAT SO SKINNY? BRING BACK CHUBBY PATRICK DDDDDDx” but I would like you to stop for a minute and think: “Who am I trying to tell a 27 year old man what to do with his body? Am I crazy?” The answer is probably yes, because his weight shouldn’t even matter. What should matter, however, is the music he makes- whether it’s in Fall Out Boy or it’s his solo project.
This brings me to my next point: Truant Wave/Soul Punk. I know some of you have been out of the loop of all things FOB for probably a bit now after thinking “Oh Fall Out Boy broke up!” which is not the case at all. Fall Out Boy has gone on hiatus

As you can see hiatus =/= breaking up. The four men that are in Fall Out Boy decided to take some time to try new things. Patrick is doing a solo project and he is pretty damn happy about doing so. In February 2011, Patrick released the Truant Wave EP. This EP is a little taste of what Patrick’s style is like. This music that he’s making is completely and totally him. If you can’t see that, I feel sorry for you because this music is so full of life and, sure, it’s totally different from Fall Out Boy but that’s a good thing because as Patrick said once (I am loosely quoting this I apologize) “If I was going to make music that sounded like Fall Out Boy, I’d be doing Fall Out Boy”- hence why this is called his solo project. So anyways, first time listeners of this EP you’re probably thinking how his lyrics are ‘shallow’ and ‘stupid’ but what most of you are unaware of is the fact that Patrick tends to (if not always) writes in a character or from a different perspective (or in the case of As Long As I Know I’m Getting Paid, a satire). Truant Wave is an amazing 25 minute EP that, if listened closely to, it can tell you a story.Getting to the main point of the music side about Soul Punk. On October 18th, 2011 (25 days left!) Patrick is going to release his first full length solo album. This album in its standard edition is completely autonomous (which generally means existing as an independent entity)- so this means for those of you complaining about This City saying “This song would be so much better without Lupe” can be referred here because that is the actual album version, the remix of This City is the only song on the entire (bonus edition of the) album that has a guest artist. Soul Punk is (as reviewers have been saying) is a very 80’s MJ & Prince influenced album- which is what Patrick wanted because he is a Prince fanatic. If you don’t end up like Soul Punk or Truant Wave, I’ll understand. But do all of the Patrick Stump fans a favor and shut the fuck up if you’re going to hate. Don’t tag it, don’t tweet him about it, don’t do anything of the sort. Do you know how much it must upset Patrick to see “Your music is shit, go back to Fall Out Boy”? Especially if you’re a Fall Out Boy fan. The least you can do even more so if you’re a Fall Out Boy fan is respect what he’s doing and respect Black Cards and The Damned Things, too, because those men gave us the best 10 years and now they’re all doing something for themselves. This has been an informative rant from Sarah.

AMEN!
